Pest control for homes and businesses across metro Atlanta

Ant Control

Max Pest Solutions treats ant infestations across metro Atlanta by locating and treating the nest rather than spraying visible trails. Most jobs take one treatment plus a follow-up inspection. Quotes are free, and your technician reviews the label-directed re-entry interval with you before leaving.

Customized Pest Control Solutions

A wooded acre and a slab-foundation subdivision home need different work. In metro Atlanta we quote after walking the property rather than from a price list, so what gets applied follows what the inspection actually finds.

What are ants?

Georgia homes deal with three ants that matter. Odorous house ants are the small dark ones that trail across counters and smell faintly of coconut when crushed. Argentine ants form enormous connected colonies and are the usual cause of a trail that reappears days after spraying. Carpenter ants are the largest and the only ones that damage structures, excavating galleries in damp or decaying timber.

All three are social insects with a nest that may sit well away from where you see them. This is why surface sprays fail: killing foragers removes perhaps two per cent of the colony while the queen keeps producing replacements.

How do you know you have ants?

  • Persistent trails along skirting boards, worktops or window frames
  • Ants reappearing within days of a shop-bought spray
  • Small piles of what looks like sawdust near timber, a carpenter ant sign
  • A faint rustling inside a wall cavity on a quiet night
  • Winged ants indoors in spring, which means a mature nest, not a stray
  • Ants clustered around pet bowls, bins or a leaking pipe

How does Max Pest Solutions treat ants?

  1. Inspection. We follow the trails back to entry points and locate the nest, checking crawlspaces, wall voids and the property perimeter.
  2. Identification. The species determines the treatment. Argentine ants need a different bait from carpenter ants, and using the wrong one splits the colony instead of killing it.
  3. Targeted baiting. Foragers carry bait back to the nest and feed the queen. This looks slower than spraying for the first few days and is the reason the problem does not return.
  4. Perimeter barrier. A treated band around the foundation stops re-entry from outside nests.
  5. Follow-up. We return to confirm the colony is gone and treat any satellite nests.

How can you prevent ants?

  • Trim branches and shrubs back from the roofline and walls
  • Fix leaking taps, gutters and irrigation, since damp timber attracts carpenter ants
  • Keep firewood off the ground and away from the house
  • Seal gaps around utility penetrations and door thresholds
  • Clear standing water and leaf litter from the foundation line

A single ant treatment in metro Atlanta typically runs $150 to $300, depending on property size and how far the colony has spread. Carpenter ant work sits at the higher end because it usually involves locating nests inside structural timber and may need more than one visit.

Ongoing quarterly plans generally cost less per visit than one-off callouts and cover ants alongside other seasonal pests. We quote after inspecting, not over the phone, because the species and the nest location change the work more than the square footage does.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Ant Control

Why do ants keep coming back after I spray them?

Spraying a trail kills the foragers you can see and leaves the nest producing more. Worse, a repellent spray can cause some species to split the colony into several satellite nests, which turns one problem into several. Baiting works the other way round: foragers carry it back and feed the queen, so the colony dies out rather than relocating.

How long does ant treatment take to work?

Baiting looks slower than spraying for the first few days because the foragers have to carry it back to the nest. That delay is the point. Most homes see a clear reduction within one to two weeks and full control after the follow-up visit.

Do I need to leave the house during ant treatment?

No. Interior treatments are low-odour and dry within about an hour, and you and your pets can stay home throughout. We tell you the re-entry time for any treated room before we start.

What is the difference between carpenter ants and other ants?

Carpenter ants excavate galleries in damp structural timber rather than eating it, so they are a building problem rather than a nuisance one. They need a different treatment from Argentine or odorous house ants, which is why we identify the species before choosing an approach.

Should I clean up the ant trail before you arrive?

Please do not. The trail shows us where they are entering and which direction the nest is in, and wiping it away removes the most useful evidence on the property. Leave it and we will follow it back.

Will one ant treatment be enough?

Most jobs are one treatment plus a follow-up visit to confirm the colony is gone and to treat any satellite nests that show up afterwards. That return visit is part of the job, not a second call-out.
